Baccarat Online

Baccarat Online: Starting a Real-Money Hand

Each hand, the players and the dealers, has two cards. To begin, you choose one of three types of bets. These are ‘Player’, ‘Banker/Dealer’, or ‘Tie’. The Banker will also place his bet, and he will almost always bet on his own hand. Once bets are made, the hands are dealt.

The Player's hand will be acted upon first. Both cards will be flipped over with the total value being read by the Banker. If these 2 cards total a value of 6-9, no cards will be drawn.

A total of 8 or 9 is considered ‘Neutral’. This is an automatic winning hand against the Banker unless he also has an 8 or 9. In this case, there is a tie. Whoever has the 9 will win. If the Player’s card total is 5 or less, they will be dealt a third card. Now, their play is complete.

After the Players cards have been revealed, the Banker will repeat a similar round. However, there are more variations for a third card to be dealt. The Banker will draw a third card if the hand totals 3 and the Players hand totals 0-7. If the Banker has a total of 4, another card will be dealt as long as the Players hand is 0 or 2-7. If the Bankers’ total is 5, a third card is dealt when the player has a 4-7. If the Banker’s total is a 6, a card will be dealt when the Player has a 6 or 7.

Counting the Cards:

  • Aces: count as 1
  • Picture cards and 10s: Count as 0
  • Cards 2-9: Count as face value

If you are dealt a total of 10 or more, you must drop the first digit. For example, if you have a 7 and a 6 in your hand, the total is 13 (7+6). The 1 is dropped, leaving you with a total of 3.

A pair of 10s or total of 20 becomes 0 (2x0). Hands of 8 or 9 are neutral, but 9 beats 8.

Payouts in Baccarat:

  • Player: Even-Money (1/1)
  • Banker: 19/20 (1/1 minus the 5% house commission)
  • Tie: 8/1

Understanding Good Strategy

Rather than trying to influence your baccarat hands, you could consider to remain focused on the outcome of each hand while varying the intensity of the betting.

In other words, bet more as you win, and less as you lose. This should help you to keep your bankroll management in check while still allowing you to enjoy the game.

Avoiding the Tie Bet c

It’s important to discuss the ‘Tie Bet’. With an 8-1 payout, betting on a tie can be very tempting, even for the most experienced players. This bet has one of the highest house advantages of all casino games; a whopping 15 percent. The likelihood of a tie is slim, therefore it is in your best interest to avoid this bet.

Baccarat Variations and Side Bets

There are a few different variations to baccarat. These may have slightly different rules, odds or bets. Make sure you are aware of these before you begin to play these games for cash.

At an online casino, baccarat games may offer you alternative bets, or ‘side bets’. These include Big, Small, Player Pair, Banker Pair or Perfect Pair. If you are interested in winning extra real cash, these bets may be for you. Check with the gambling operator to see whether or not they are offered to you, and don’t forget to review the paytable.
