The ante and bet system make this game a lot more exciting on small margin wins, as most players will not risk a further bet on a one card spread, yet they will still win on the ante if a win is achieved.

The advantage of Red Dog is simplicity and variable levels of excitement regardless of the bet size. In many other card games, increasing the bet and taking on riskier propositions is often the only way to create peaks of dramatic tension. In Red Dog, this is naturally accomplished just by playing due to the announcement of the spread between the first two cards.
