Red Dog is up there with the online casino games that I enjoy most. I prefer to play it when I have something else to focus on as well, though, as the gameplay isn’t very complex. The pace can be quite relaxing, but the variation in the odds gives Red Dog great moments of excitement that make it a very entertaining diversion.

Red Dog is essentially a variant of acey-deucey, also known as in-between. The player is simply placing a bet on whether the value of a card will fall between the values of two other cards. As the ranges between the cards will vary, so do the odds paid out on a win. The ante and bet system make this game a lot more exciting on small margin wins, as most players will not risk a further bet on a one card spread, yet they will still win on the ante if a win is achieved.

The advantage of Red Dog is simplicity and variable levels of excitement regardless of the bet size. In many other card games, increasing the bet and taking on riskier propositions is often the only way to create peaks of dramatic tension. In Red Dog, this is naturally accomplished just by playing due to the announcement of the spread between the first two cards. This lack of control of the odds does not appeal to some, so they may prefer a form of blackjack or a casino poker game such as pai gow poker.
