Pai gow poker is an exciting blend of the traditional Chinese domino game of pai gow with some elements of 5 stud poker. Each player of pai gow is dealt seven cards, from which they must construct a five-card hand and a two-card hand. In order to win in pai gow, a player must beat the dealer on both hands.
Unlike 5 stud poker and many other forms of poker, pai gow is played against a dealer. Most often this is a casino dealer but occasionally the dealer can be another player. For some, this makes online pai gow a preferable option to other forms of online poker, as with correct strategy the house edge of pai gow can be diminished significantly. Skilled players can reduce the house edge to as little as 2.5 per cent.
As each player simply chooses an amount to bet for every round of pai gow and it is played against the dealer, there is no element of bluffing. This makes an excellent game for mathematically minded players, as pai gow strategy is quite straightforward.
Pai gow is not a fast game due to the high possibility of pushes (a dealer must win on both hands to beat the player and collect money). This can make online pai gow preferable to other online gambling games, as the slow pace may allow players with a small bankroll a longer time to perform as long as they place sensible bets.
