› Fruit Machine Rules

The way to play fruit machines is usually quite standard in Great Britain. As with video poker rules and other forms of slot machine, players must initially insert their bet and then press a button. The reels of the fruit machine will then spin and randomly generate a sequence of symbols for the player. Some fruit machines simply determine a win or loss at this point, but many others employ a few extra features to add variety to the game.

If the fruit machine you are playing has a ‘hold’ function, then you may be able to hold the result of one of your reels for the next spin. Another common feature is a ‘nudge’, where one of the reels can be rotated by one step. Both of these features can potentially increase the player’s chance of winning.

A very important feature of many fruit machines is the ability to buy lines. As many fruit machines display more than one set of results at a time, there are a number of lines that a player can potentially win on. For example, in a fruit machine with three reels that each display three symbols after a result, there are eight potential lines to win on. These would be three horizontal lines, one for each row; three vertical lines, one for each column; and two diagonal lines.

Each line features three symbols that could make up prize winning combinations. Generally, fruit machines with multiple win lines require a higher cost bet in order to purchase the extra lines, similar to how many slot machines will have improved payout ratios for higher bets.
