› Caribbean Stud Poker Rules

To start playing Caribbean Stud Poker, all a player really needs is money. The rules are very basic, possibly easier than blackjack. Players put down an ante bet and then get dealt 5 cards, face down. The dealer gets dealt 5 cards, 4 face down and 1 face up. Players may only look at their own cards and must not tell others what they have. This is not an issue in online Caribbean Stud Poker.

Once players have their cards, they decide whether to raise or fold. If they fold, they lose their ante and their cards. If they raise, they must put another amount equal to twice the ante down in order to continue. The dealer now turns over his cards.

The dealer’s hand must qualify in order for the full payouts to be made. The hand must have an Ace and a King, or a higher hand, in order to qualify. If the dealer hand does not qualify, then all remaining players are paid even money on their antes and have their raise bets pushed.

If the dealer hand qualifies, the dealer’s hand is compared to each player’s hand. Those players with a higher ranking hand get paid out even money on the ante and get paid on the raise bet according to the strength of their hand. Those players who have a lower ranking hand lose both their ante and raise bets. In the event of a tie, the player’s bets are pushed.

A standard pay table would read as follows, but it can vary from casino to casino:

  • Royal Flush – 100 to 1
  • Straight Flush – 50 to 1
  • Four of a Kind – 20 to 1
  • Full House – 7 to 1
  • Flush – 5 to 1
  • Straight – 4 to 1
  • Three of a Kind – 3 to 1
  • Two Pair – 2 to 1
  • Pair or less – Even money

Remember that these are only paid on a player win. People who want to get paid on good hands regardless of winning against the dealer might prefer a game such as Tri Card Poker, making the pairplus bet.
